About This Game DescriptionPolygod is a rogue-like, randomly generated, single & multiplayer FPS with a brutal difficulty curve! Blending a fast-paced, Quake-esque feel with randomness, difficulty and our handcrafted power-up system, Polygod is a hardcore gamer and speedrunner's dream. Only the most skilled and strategic players will defeat the Trial of the Gods. You are a Faceless One: a one-armed, gun-wielding assassin of legend. The seven deities of Polygod will test your skill with randomly generated arenas of hostile minions, followed by a boss fight against a ruthless Holy Champion. Each of the arenas features five Altars of Worship, offering you Blessings in exchange for Souls you have collected along your journey. Blessings combine and stack to create unique gun effects, but each has consequences, so choose wisely if you wish to survive each wicked challenge. And don’t forget, death is permanent in this purgatory of the gods! The art style is inspired by the meta-physical surrealist artist Giorgio de Chirico who is famously revered for his eerie mood and strange artificiality of cityscapes.Main FeaturesA UNIQUE, RANDOMLY GENERATED EXPERIENCE EVERY TIME. Polygod's core gameplay is relatively fun, upgrading your bullets is satisfying and fun and there are a couple good combos/builds to play around with. The main problem with Polygod is that enemy hp is balanced horribly. As the game progresses enemies get stronger, they move and shoot faster, and move in more complex patterns making them harder to hit, but their hp also scales up drastically. If you dont increase your dps enemies take forever to kill. This means that going for non dps upgrades is a waste of time in most cases, because you already move relatively fast and hp isn't very valuable as you will eventually get to a level that is almost unbeatable due to the tankiness of the enemies. This means that even if you get an op damage build you cant really see its effects very well because enemies still take too long to kill. Also the game does not punish camping, you can shoot most enemies from very far away with little to no drawbacks, especially on the second level. I've played the game for a decently long time, and only ever got to the fourth level, and unlocked one achievement. I have played many other rogulite games and been able to progress in them relatively well, but this game just seems too unbalanced. You have to get an op build to realistically beat it, otherwise you will just be kiting the bullet sponge enemies for unfun amounts of time. My advice to the devs would be to reduce the hp of enemies while making their attacks more damaging. This poor balancing is pretty unfortunate as the level generation and enemy design and attack patterns are actually very well done. This could be a pretty great game if is was just better balanced.. Really neutral opinion at the current state of the game, but I'd not recommend the game for my friends just yet (wait until release). Here's the full video if you'd rather watch:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO7g8u4NARA&feature=youtu.beIn Polygod, you challenge the evil Gods in a special trial (Trial of Gods). The twist is that every level is randomly generated. As you kill enemies, you gather “souls” which you can use to improve your character. And while it all sounds great, I have mixed feelings about the game.Pros:- Fast paced gameplay- Beautiful low-poly graphics, distinct style, colorful levels and effects- Lots of different upgrades- ChallengingCons:- Only one weapon. (Yes, you can get various modifiers, but at the current point it just feels very repetitive to start every game with it).- Menu issues with gamepad, some UX/UI trouble- The shooting sound of player’s weapon does not feel enjoyable- Pathfinding is not that great, monsters get stuck behind wallsI can see that a lot of work went into the game, but my main issue is with the gameplay right now: pace-wise it’s good, but there’s actually a big game design challenge. In “linear” shooters, you are often given weapons to solve some kind of an “issue.” I.e. you are given rocket launcher before tank appears or shotgun for close-quarters or sniper-rifle before long-range combat starts. If the process is randomly generated, it’s just is not there. Therefore it becomes somewhat repetitive, because you have a gun and specific enemies that you can defeat using pretty much anything.Overall, I’d say the game has its own style and the gameplay principles are there, but it feels that the game went into early access a bit too early. At the time of writing the review, not all enemies have shooting/movement sounds, so you can’t hear where they are nearby. I’d say skip this one for now and check it out when it’s done. Looking forward to when it's done and I'll be glad to take another look.. A spot on roguelite shooter that's got just the right amount of challenge. This game is really addicting. It's just one of those games that you jump into and try your best to survive. It's awesome and I love every second of it.. Gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYEmYYAqL2ESo it took me about 2 hours to get past the first boss and then I had the run linked above. This game is pretty darn fun and scratches all those roguelike/rogue-lite itches: upgrade variety, high difficulty, randomly generated areas, perma-death. It's already quite good in Early Access, so I can only imagine it'll be extra super good when it's fully released. It's definitely a game worth keeping an eye on and trying out.. Really difficult, which is why its great. Really enjoy the simple look as well. Lots of cool power ups. All around great game.. I don't write reviews very often, but I feel like I was really misleaded by the positive reviews of this game. While the purchasable power ups add some variety and strategy to the game, the gameplay remains very unbalanced and quite dull. Most of the time you will be too weak to properly fight enemies past second level. All you can do then is finding a spot where you can shoot things from a distance and cleaning the level before going ahead. Lots of enemies in the game are incredibly annoying too (as in "moving superfast and spamming bullets" annoying) and take forever to kill.Long story made short : I suppose the game could become quite fun with some more work, but in its current state it just isn't.Also I don't really mind the general game esthetics, just know that you will be wondering what you are shooting at a lot (well, except for the flying submarines). It's a pretty decent rogue-lite, up until the third boss. That's when you realize it's just another RNG crap-shoot with fancy graphics. On the plus side, the enemy AI is intriguing, implementing guerilla tactics when the cards are on the table. POLYGOD also has one of the more unique and compelling atmospheres I've ever seen in a first person shooter; I go so far as to compare the story to E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy. But I can't rate it on consistency since I never finished it.Final Score: Those flying spike ball things can eat **** and die.. It's a unity tech demo being sold as a game.. i do enjoy playing this game, but i cannot recommend it for its current price in its current state.i'm not sober so this is a little disorganized, but bear with me-movement feels SUPER fast, and there's powerups that further (and drastically, even) increase that speed-lots of enemies make no sounds at all even while firing, so it's easy for some to creep up on you, and some enemies do -enough damage very quickly to kill you without any chance to react-the sounds that do exist are not that good. the jump sound and heal sound in particular feel very off-you can't aim straight down, so there are angles that you can't hit enemies at when you're on a cliff and they're right beneath you-you can stand pressed up against the turret enemies and they won't damage you, presumably because the bullet spawns behind you-the first boss moves incredibly fast and erratically and i've yet to actually beat it without laser shots-changing options (music volume, at least) from within the game instead of the title will reset them when you retry-quitting to title while in the first level seems to instead put you at the hub. quitting from the hub functions normally-lots of generated areas seem to be in very small corridors, leaving little room to dodge, or sometimes not enough room between a wall and a prop to get through, despite appearing otherwisethat all said, it's got plenty of fun-to-use powerups and i can't stop coming back to it. it's an enjoyable game that suffers from being... well, new, i suppose. i'm excited to see where this game will be a year from now if development continues to improve the game.
